The Selphyl® System

The Selphyl® System (aka the Vampire Filler) is a new approach to anti-aging treatment that uses the patient’s own blood to significantly improve physical appearance.

How does it work?
First, a qualified member of The Derm Centre Team will draw a small amount of blood (~ 9cc) from the patient’s vein into a vacuum tube containing a cell separator gel. The gel enables the division of blood components so that the blood platelet and fibrin-rich plasma (PRP) stay with it. They are then transferred to a second tube containing calcium chloride solution, which creates the filler. This thick concentrate is then injected into the treatment area just under the skin. The gel enables The filler releases proteins that trigger new cell growth that create and support a much stronger collagen structure over time.

What areas can be treated?

  • helps give a fuller appearance to hollow cheeks and pock marks
  • helps diminish acne scarring
  • greatly improves the appearance of the nasolabial folds or the smile lines

Who can be treated?
This treatment is appropriate for patients of all ethnicities; however, people prone to blood clotting, and those taking blood thinning medications should not use the Selphyl® treatment. This includes herbal treatments, vitamins and aspirin. Also, patients already treating infections should wait until they have cleared before beginning treatment.

What are the benefits of this treatment?
More than 15,000 Selphyl treatments have been performed around the world. One of the greatest benefits of the Selphyl System is that it is a completely individualized treatment, created from the patient’s own blood. Because of that, the patient’s body readily accepts the treatment – and there is virtually no risk of allergic reactions. The product contains no animal or synthetic products, making it extremely safe and diminishing the possibilities for the appearance of side effects.

How long does the procedure take?
The treatment takes place in the office, and requires no general anesthetic. It takes about 30 minutes to complete. After two to three weeks, the treated area will begin to look smoother as the newly created cells fill in under the skin. The improvement will continue for several weeks until signs of aging are greatly diminished.

Is the treatment painful?
Unlike other products that are acidic (low pH), SELPHYL® has close to physiologic pH. There may be some temporary discomfort during the injections, and occasional redness and bruising immediately following the treatment that resolves quickly.

How many treatments are needed?
The number of treatments needed depends on each individual patient, the desired outcome, and your doctor’s treatment plan. As a stand-alone therapy, many physicians recommend a series of one to three injection sessions spaced from four to six weeks apart for optimal results.

Are there any side effects?
There have been no known side effects reported to date. Some patients may experience some mild irritation, swelling, bruising, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection sites. These are temporary conditions and typically resolve within two days.

How long does it last?
The longevity of the results of SELPHYL® treatments vary based on the extent of the procedure, areas treated, and number of sessions.

What does it cost?

Fees may range from $800-1,200 per treatment session, based on the extent of the treatment.
